ADOPTION PROCESS

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Woof Den!  We are excited that you want to add one of our beloved dogs into your family, and we are equally as excited to place one of our dogs in your loving household.  Please understand we are 100% volunteer based.

Our volunteers do this as their passion for the breed, but all of us have full time jobs and families too!  We do our very best to provide the best service possible, so please be patient with us as we diligently work to find your new best friend.

To ensure a match made in your life , there are a few steps that must be done and requirements to be met. Please read ALL of the following information below

Once all information is read, find our application here!

Adoption Application

STEP #1: RESEARCH THE BREED, AND OUR AVAILABLE DOGS

These Breeds have notoriously interesting personalities and are not a breed of dog to be taken in unprepared. Please do ample research and consider fostering before diving in to the magical world of the Nordic and Herding breeds ! Find some information here:

Our available Dogs are listed on our website. You may also find our adoptable dogs on PetFinder, Adopt a Pet, RescueMe and RescueGroup. We update our listings as soon as possible to keep the most current availability listed. However, due to timing and volunteer availability, updates may not happen immediately, so please allow at least 24 hours for the update to reflect on our website.

We do our best to provide honest and detailed information about our dogs in their bios on this page.  We try to be as thorough as possible based on what we know.:

  • The pictures/video you see are the only pictures and video we have, so please do not ask for other pictures and or Video!

  • Please read each bio carefully.  If it's not listed in their bio, then unfortunately we do not know.

  • Many times, you may apply for one dog, but after our review, we determine that dog may not be a good fit for your family and lifestyle.  We’ll do our best to match you with a dog that we think would be better suited.

  • We receive multiple applications for the same dog and our first priority is placing the dog into the home that is best suited to his/her needs.

  • Please note that we DO NOT HOLD DOGS. Also, we could have another applicant interested in the same dog you apply for. We do our best to find the best match for our dogs, and if the one you apply for is no longer available once you’re approved, then we will match you with one that we think would fit your family and lifestyle.

STEP #2: COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION

The application is the best way to explain yourself and why you think this dog would be a good fit for you. We ask that you fill out our adoption application in its entirety. This will give us an opportunity to learn more about you and determine which Dog might be a good fit if any. If the requested dog is pending, or we feel is not the best match, this allows us an opportunity to suggest another one for you.

*Please allow a weeks to process your application. All adoption applications are either approved or denied based on a review process that includes a vet reference, one employment reference and two Personal reference and a mandatory home visit (all family members must be present). Any missing information will delay the process and could potentially result in a denial.

Requirements for adoption

Adult/Puppy :

  • Current dog(s) must be spayed or neutered. All animals in the home must be up to date on necessary vaccines (Rabies, DH2PP.)

  • We do not adopt purebred breeds to anyone without proven experience.

  • You must be 21, or older, to apply.

  • we do not adopt to students as they tend to have busy schedules, which results in not enough time for these breeds.

  • Nordic and Herding breeds dogs have a high prey drive. We always consider this when placing these breeds in his/her new home.

STEP 3: MEET AND GREET

Our dogs are located in private foster homes throughout the state of California.  Each foster home has their own family, jobs, etc.  That said, you must have an approved application prior to setting up a meet and greet with any of our dogs.

Once you have completed the application, and have been approved , we will schedule a meet and greet with the foster of the dog you wish to adopt. In order to ensure that the best compatible dog is chosen, it is important that all household/family members, including other dogs, interact with the potential new member of your family before the adoption is finalized. That said, if your ready to adopt the foster can come to your home with the dog you want to Adopt and finalized the adoption, But your still thinking about it the foster will meet you at a park to meet and socialize as long as you want to make sure that said dog is right for you and your whole family.

(* PLEASE NOTE WE DON'T ADOPT OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA AND MOST OF NEVADA*)

STEP 4: HOME CHECK

Applications that are qualified to be a good fit for a particular the dog that they chosen you are subject to a home check by a volunteer of Woof Den. Adopting a new Nordic or a Herding breed into your home is a serious 12 to 17 year commitment and we want to ensure the dog you adopt will be a good fit within your home environment. How might they interact with the family members and/or other pets? Where will they stay when you're not home? Is your fence safe free of holes and etc? Is your home and yard free of any possible dangers? How will they get exercise and how often? We just want the dog and to have many years of exciting and joyful times ahead.

STEP 5: Adoption Contract, All Medical Paperwork, Payment and Adoption Stater Pack

If you decide you want to adopt, and we have approved you for this dog, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract. Once the signed contract is received and the adoption fee is pay, we will give you a completed copy of the contract, medical records, microchip the dog for you and Also from us a starter pack such as; 5 lbs. bag of Taste of The Wild Ancient Wetlands with Ancient Grain dry dog food, treats and toys and or Etc. We want to make sure to make the transition for both you, your family and your new furry pal as smooth and easy as possible. Remember that you are all they have so give them the best life for life and continue support from Woof Den Rescue

Woof Den will pull dogs from shelters with treatable medical conditions. We nurse them and get them the veterinary care they need while finding them homes. In recent times we have treated dogs for conditions ranging from torn knee ligaments, heartworm and hookworm, to broken bones and gunshot wounds.

There is an adoption fee which goes towards vaccinations, heartworm, spay/neutering, micro-chipping, and medical care if needed. Fees help with kenneling, food, collars, leashes, sometimes even toys, and possibly the use of a dog trainer to help with behavior problems. These fees all go towards helping the dogs. We are an all-volunteer organization, with no paid staff. You don’t get this kind of full service and care when “buying” a new dog. Your new dog will come to you altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated. Now all you need to do is get ready to meet your new best “fur”ever friend.
